Description

Melanotan II (MT-II) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analogue of α-MSH (alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone). It is a melanocortin receptor agonist (non-selective), studied for its ability to stimulate melanogenesis (tanning) and for certain central nervous system effects linked to melanocortin signaling.

Molecular Formula: C₅₀H₆₉N₁₅O₉
Molecular Weight: ~1024.2 g/mol
CAS Number: 121062-08-6

What Are the Effects of Melanotan II?

Melanotan II is associated with several key effects (documented mainly in research and case-based medical reports):

  • Increased Skin Pigmentation (Tanning): By stimulating melanogenesis via melanocortin receptors (especially MC1R).

  • Appetite / Energy Balance Effects (Research): Melanocortin pathways (notably MC4R) are strongly involved in appetite regulation; MT-II is used experimentally in this context.

  • Sexual/Arousal-Related Effects (Reported): Human research has described erectogenic effects in certain contexts (notably via central melanocortin pathways).

  • Adverse Effects (Reported): Flushing, nausea/vomiting, reduced appetite, yawning/stretching, and spontaneous erections/priapism risk have been reported; dermatology sources also warn about mole changes and long-term safety concerns.

How Does It Work?

Melanotan II acts as a non-selective agonist of melanocortin receptors (MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, MC5R). Activation of MC1R on melanocytes increases melanin production (tanning), while activation of central receptors like MC4R/MC3R is linked to appetite and sexual/behavioral effects in experimental literature.

Scientific Evidence and Research Status

MT-II has been studied in humans in early clinical research for tanning effects, but it is not an approved mainstream medication for cosmetic tanning, and much of its real-world notoriety comes from unregulated use (with variable product quality and safety concerns). Peer-reviewed studies and dermatology safety discussions emphasize that evidence and risk–benefit are not comparable to regulated therapies.

Role in Sports and Performance Contexts

MT-II is not primarily a “performance” peptide, but it may appear in athlete circles for body-image or appetite/behavior effects. In regulated sport, the safest approach is always to check the current WADA Prohibited List and/or official medication-check tools, because status can depend on categories such as “unapproved substances” and the specific compound being used.

Maintenance Dosage

Once tanned, reduce to 0.5-1 mg once or twice weekly to sustain effects, combined with sun exposure. For libido research, 0.5-2 mg as needed, spaced 48 hours apart.

These figures reflect controlled study protocols, and do not establish a standardized safe “general-use” human dosing framework.

Storage Instructions

All of our products are manufactured using the Lyophilization (Freeze Drying) process, which ensures that our products remain 100% stable for shipping for up to 3-4 months.
Once the peptides are reconstituted (mixed with bacteriostatic water), they must be stored in the fridge to maintain stability. After reconstitution, the peptides will remain stable for up to 30 days.
Lyophilization is a unique dehydration process, also known as cryodesiccation, where the peptides are frozen and then subjected to low pressure. This causes the water in the peptide vial to sublimate directly from solid to gas, leaving behind a stable, crystalline white structure known as lyophilized peptide. The puffy white powder can be stored at room temperature until you’re ready to reconstitute it with bacteriostatic water.
Once peptides have been received, it is imperative that they are kept cold and away from light. If the peptides will be used immediately, or in the next several days, weeks or months, short-term refrigeration under 4℃ (39℉) is generally acceptable. Lyophilized peptides are usually stable at room temperatures for several weeks or more, so if they will be utilized within weeks or months such storage is typically adequate. However, for longer term storage (several months to years) it is more preferable to store peptides in a freezer at -80℃ (-112℉). When storing peptides for months or even years, freezing is optimal in order to preserve the peptide’s stability.
